Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is a 2020 comedy, Mockumentary and is a sequel to the 2006 comedy which is also a mouthful, titled Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Both movies star Sacha Baron Cohen in the titular role of Borat Sagdiyev a kazakhstan journalist who is sent to America to complete certain tasks to ‘Make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan’ as the title suggests.
Baron Cohen mixes scripted scenes with public pranks in order to expose and raise awareness of American Culture, be it the Good, The Bad or The Ugly.
So to start off this movie is not for people easily offended. The first movie caused a lot of controversy when released 14 years ago way back in 2006 and this one also has its controversial moments. However the controversy that Baron Cohen produces in this movie is paired with such an outlandish and at times uncomfortable look into deep deep bowels of American culture to uncover, expose and speak the truth that people are too afraid to and make us laugh and squirm along the way.
So the basics of the plot is that Borat is sent to America ‘again’ to deliver a bribe to Mike Pence in order to get Kazakhstan in U,S and A’s good books, However the bribe comes in the form of Borat’s daughter Tutar after she eats the last planned bribe a Pornographic monkey…yes you read that right.
First of all this is a comedy movie and the aim of a comedy is to make us laugh, and Borat manages to achieve what most sequels do not and somehow excels over the first in terms of quality. This Subsequent MovieFilm is by far funnier than the first and i feel more like a movie than the first one which to me felt like it was just Cohen going around in character pranking the public, which was funny but i feel some of the jokes have not held up too well. However given the topic of the jokes i feel that the second one will have the same fate in 14+ years. The jokes are very now and poke fun at the things that are currently happening in America which are much different compared to 14 years ago and what will be 14 years from now.
However as it stands the Borat Sequel is superb, the jokes had me belly laughing. Sacha Baron Cohen continues to prove he is nothing short of a comedy genius as well as a man with no fear or shame as he isn’t afraid to make himself look foolish to make a fool of others. Maria Bakalova as his daughter is without question the breakout star of the flick. She proves she can stand up against the likes of Cohen without the years of experience that he has had with public prankings, she effortlessly steals most of the scenes she is in and i would go as far to say she was much funnier than Cohen in the movie, her jokes landed, her delivery was on point and it was just as uncomfortably hilarious to watch her transform a room of unsuspecting Americans into her punchline as it was with Cohen.
As mentioned before there are some controversial scenes in the movie as expected. There was one however that actually didn’t make me laugh it actually made me squirm with discomfort and for those who have seen the movie probably know what im talking about… The Rudy Giuliani scene. The scene in question is Tutar interviewing Rudy as she is going to give herself to him as a gift to prevent her father’s execution in Kazakhstan. However the actress is 24 playing a 15 year old and she comes on to Rudy as the character of the 15 year old Tutar…and Rudy takes her to his room asks for her address and phone number and then proceeds to lay on the bed and put his hand down his pants, before he is interrupted by Borat. There is obviously plenty wrong with this and you don’t need me to explain it but it was a scene that felt uncomfortably out of place in this comedy movie however I couldn’t help but commend Cohen and Bakalova for pulling such a ballsy move in order to expose how corrupt the political power can be.
Overall I had a good time with the Borat Sequel and Baron Cohen and his new co-star proves that the offensive and provocative material that Cohen produced all the years ago can still be funny 14 years later.
Final Score.
Title: Great
“Borat Subsequent Movie Film: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is outrageously funny and unapologetically offensive. Cohen and co-star Maria Bakalova produce a movie that isn’t scared to do or show everything and produces plenty of laughs, emotion and shock as well as uncovering the corrupt nature of the smorgasbord that is American Culture.“
