The Babysitter: Killer Queen Review

The Babysitter Killer Queen is a 2020 Comedy/Horror and is a sequel to the surprisingly Great The Babysitter from 2017. Now if you haven’t seen the first movie I recommend watching it on Netflix, it’s a fun cheesy horror movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s a fun watch. Also there will be spoilers for the first movie here so if that bothers you go watch the first then come back to this one.

So the plot once again follows Cole played by Judah Lewis who is now deemed as crazy after driving a car through his house to kill his satanic Babysitter, Bee played by Samara Weaving and also killing her cult members throughout the film. When authorities arrive and there is no evidence of any sort of killings, it just makes Cole look crazy. So with his best friend Melanie (Emily Alyn Lind) the only person that believes him they goes out on a boat trip to a lake, only to find demons from his past a reemerged to finish what they started.

Now as mentioned above what made the first movie so fun is that it didn’t take itself too seriously. It was a cheesy over the top gore fest that had a lot of on the nose humour which mostly landed. The second one has some of the good qualities of the first but it goes a little to overboard for my liking. Let’s use the main plot of the cult as an example. In the first movie the cult was more of an idea and no magical or otherworldly things happened it was just an attempt. In the second one people are brought back to life and we even see the devil and it needs to explain a lot throughout the movie for this to make sense. However I don’t want to watch a cheesy movie and have a lot of exposition and explaining. I just want to see what the first movie pulled off and most of the time it falls short in the Killer Queen.

A praise i have is the cast, almost everyone from the previous film appears in this movie and also some new additions and everyone does great, Judah Lewis is really funny as well as Robbie Amell and Andrew Bachelor (King Bach for the vine fans) who constantly had me chuckling even Bella Thorne as much as i disagree with the majority of her superstar presence gave a few laughs here and there although not as many as the first film.

They also have this sub-plot that feels tacked on to try and add another link the first movie and it just feels so sloppy, lazy and cliche even for a dumb movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It all felt a little too coincidental for my taste and it could have still managed without it. Also a little tagged note that i think they only called it The Babysitter ‘Killer Queen’ so they could use the famous QUEEN song of the same name.

The first movie was enjoyable as well because of the over the top death scenes and my god does this movie up the ante. Every death scene in this movie made me wince or physically groan because even though the movie is mostly a comedy…it’s really really brutal and sometimes a little too realistic but it is undeniably glorious.

If you were a fan of the first Babysitter movie then there may be some enjoyment in the sequel for you, it does feel a little clunky and over loaded compared to the first films simple premise but there is enough to keep you watching even if it did come across to me as a little disappointing.

Final Score.

Title: Average

The Babysitter Killer Queen outdoes it predecessor when it comes to the kills and there is still bits of fun to have. But all in all it’s a pretty disappointing sequel that takes the simple premise of the first and tries to overload it with too many cliches and coincidences.
