The Hunt Spoiler Review.

The Hunt is 2020 most talked about movie according to the filmmakers and stars an all star cast such as Betty Giplin, Emma Roberts, Hilary Swank, Ethan Suplee, Glenn Howerton and Ike Barinholtz…just to name a few.

The film is directed by Craig Zobel and is written Damon Linleof (Watchmen HBO) and Nick Cuse (Who produced Watchmen HBO) and it tells the story of The liberal elites as they are called multiple times in this movie hunting a group of degenerates for sport…But is there more reason to the sport than is first presumed.

First of all i was really excited for this movie before the delay (Because of gun violence in the USA) and was genuinely disappointed that the movie was on hold thinking it was something that i wasn’t going to ever see. However to my surprise the shelf it was thrown on was broken and we got a final release date hence this review of The Hunt…So is it a sharpshooter of a movie or is it firing blanks.

The answer is neither. If i were to compare this movie to a weapon it would probably be a sword…it’s pretty great to have…but i think i would prefer something else. That does not by all means mean this movie is bad, I actually quite enjoyed it. I just wanted a little bit more of the hunt part of it. It could have been really tense with some funny moments sprinkled in but given the subject matter this movie is full blown comedy and brutal and gory comedy but a comedy. A satire on gun violence and differences between the rich and poor and also politics and political correctness would be a better way to describe it, but i wanted more of a over the top action movie with quippy one liners than a over the top comedy movie with a dark subject matter

But if we ignore what i wanted and just look at this movie for what it is a really Dark Satire Comedy then it ticks all the boxes. The cast is great despite some having very little screen time (its a film about hunting people, people are going to die). And the jokes all land (except one that seemed a little out of place involving a spike pit and a landmine) and over all the film was entertaining, the film is shot pretty well and has some great scenes, more so the fight scenes and pretty good but over the top special effects work when it comes to the gore…There is a lot of blood in this movie.

By far my favorite part of this movie is the scene where everyone realises that they are going to be hunted and ‘manor gate’ as they call it is actually a real thing. Spoilers for the rest of this review. We open up to Emma Roberts and the film pictures her as our main protagonist and then suddenly her head get blown to pieces. We then move to our new protagonist played by Justin Hartley who seems to know what he is doing helping a fellow teammate get to safety before getting blown up by a landmine and then we have Ike Barinholtz who is now our main character. He last the longest and seems to be fair competition for the Manor gate crew…But no he dies too from a shotgun blast to the chest from a couple of manor gate staff pretending to be rednecks. We are then introduced to our actual Protagonist Crystal played by Betty Giplin and my god is she great, everything she did I was like “Oh my god” or “Holy Shit”honestly this woman could give John Wick a run for his money. She is definitely one of the most badass and relentless female protagonists I have ever seen in a movie. She might be lacking in backstory for a main character but damn she had me entertained. However in a movie about senseless killing I wasn’t expecting anything along the lines of Silence of the Lambs when it comes to character development so i’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Final Score.

Title:Good

The Hunt might not be everything i wanted in this movie but it’s an entertaining and sometimes hilarious gore fest that was a bloody good time at the cinema and I really did enjoy it…Just a shame about the Pig…It Dies.
